Door was poorly closed, but without lock

Prior to the shooting in Uvalde, Texas, a teacher closed a door at Robb Elementary School, but it didn’t crash. So investigators are determining the reason, according to state police.

Minutes later, Salvador Ramos walked through that door and caused the death of 19 students and two teachers. Initially, the state police claimed that the teacher left the door slightly open. However, they still have not identified the teacher.

Authorities determined that the teacher opened the door with a stone, then removed it and closed it when she realized there was a shooter in the field. This was reported by Travis Considine, director of communications for the Department of Public Safety in Texas.

“We verified that she closed the door. We know a lot and now investigators are looking into why she didn’t get blocked,” Considine said.

Investigators confirmed the details through extra video footage reviewed from last Friday. Previously, they had not said what was used to open the door prior to the shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Teacher called 911 before the shooting in Uvalde, Texas and closed the door

Considine claimed that the teacher opened the door, but then she went for her phone to call 911 when Salvador Ramos crashed his truck on campus.

“He came back while on the phone, heard someone yell, ‘He’s got a gun!’ She saw him jump over the fence and that he had a gun, so she ran inside, removed the rock when this happened,” she claimed.

For his part, Don Flanary, a San Antonio attorney, told the San Antonio Express-News what a employee from Robb Elementary School close the door after realizing there was an armed man on the loose. Initially, she had left it open to bring food from a car to a classroom.

“He kicked the stone when he went back inside. He remembers closing the door while she was telling 911 that he was shooting. She thought the door would lock because it’s always supposed to be locked,” Flanary told the newspaper.
