Doom’s 30th Anniversary: John Romero Releases Sigil 2, a New Expansion with 9 Levels Full of Demonic Hordes and Heavy Metal Music

On Nobel Day 1993, Id Software released what would become one of the most iconic games in history: Doom. Developed by John Carmack and John Romero and genre-defining in FPS games. With its bloody battles and a plot partially set in Hell, it was also an early example of a game that caused a moral panic – after the Columbine massacre when it was revealed that one of the perpetrators played and built tracks for Doom.

25 years after its release, John Romero released Sigil, a fifth installment to the game with a bunch of new levels, and now he’s back again, just in time for the 30th anniversary, reports Eurogamer. He has now released Sigil 2 which gives Doom fanatics another nine levels filled with demonic hordes accompanied by heavy metal music.

The expansion can be downloaded for free from John Romeros website and then contains music in midi format produced by James Paddock. A premium version that costs 6.66 euros is also available and has a metal soundtrack from Thorr. In addition, John Romero sells a version that comes on a USB stick in the form of a floppy disk. All three of course require a copy of Doom to play.

Those who don’t have it or don’t want to bother with manual installation can instead buy Sigil 2 via the built-in store in Doom 1993 on PC, Playstation, Xbox or Switch.
