It was in October that Nintendo presented a unexpected new launchAlar. From then on, it was only a matter of time before someone tried to make Doom work on the interactive alarm clock. Now, almost a month later, it has finally happened.
He is not completely unknown in modding circles Gary OderNichts who managed to get Doom to run on the Nintendo Alarmo. THEN post on X they announced the milestone along with a clip showing how it works.
After successfully uploading his own images to the watch, Gary started experimenting with games. No changes were made to the watch’s hardware to make Doom work, but due to memory limitations, the game has no sound.
Unexpectedly good clock buttons for Doom
To move through the menus and control the game character, the buttons available in the watch and the dial on the top are used. Of course, it’s not the best way to experience Id Software’s classic, but the controls still work unexpectedly well for Doom and make it fully playable on the device.
Project source code with instructions shared on Github. Gary has too publish a blog post which explains in detail what is inside the Nintendo Alarmo and how it is possible to run custom code on it.
