On Saturday, August 6, the pioneers of “doom metal” music in the USA – the group “Evoken” – will return to Riga with a concert at the “Noass” art center.

As “Delphi” informs the organizers, “Evoken” is a band from the state of New Jersey in the USA and is considered to be the pioneers of the early American “doom/death metal” genre. The group started its activity in 1992, but is still actively playing music today.
The group gained recognition already with the debut album “Embrace The Emptiness” (1998), as well as the next record “Quietus” (2001). The group strengthened the audience’s sympathy in Europe with concerts at festivals and a small tour in 2003. During the concerts, the group was noticed by the Italian music publishing house “Avantgarde Music”, and they were supplied with the album “Antithesis of Light” (2005), which was especially liked by the listeners.
The group visited Riga in 2013, presenting the album “Atra Mors”, dedicating words of appreciation to the architecture of Old Riga and the concert attendees.
“Hypnagogia” is the band’s latest, eighth album. According to the concert organizers, this is the band’s concept album. The meaning of the word hypnogogia is the transitional state of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep. The theme of the album is related to the First World War, inspired by the diary of a wounded soldier.
Musically, the group has remained faithful to the genre in which it has been operating for 30 years, but is still able to surprise the audience with arrangements and the sound of the album, the organizers of the event emphasize.
The “sludge/doom metal” trio “Saturn’s Husk” from Riga, which has been playing since 2014, will perform in the warm-up part of the event. The group has released three albums so far – “The Great Malefic”, “Marée Noire” and “The Conduit”.
The performance of the group “Druun” is also expected. The association plays folk/doom metal and has released one album – “Veļu laiks” (2019).
Concerts start at 8 p.m., entrance from 7 p.m. “Noass” is located at AB Dambī 2, Riga.
