Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The attitude of the Chinese government is increasingly assertive about the world political map. China began to remind the leaders of Group 7 (G7) that in today’s era there is no longer a “group of countries” that determines the fate of the whole world.
“The days where global decisions were made by a small group of countries are gone,” said a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in London. Reuters, Sunday (13/6).
“We have always believed that all countries, big and small, strong and weak, poor and rich, are equal, and that world affairs should be carried out after consultation with all,” the Chinese side said.
This response came after the G7 countries worked together to unify their position on China. The G7 countries are Japan, Britain, the United States, France, Italy, Germany and Canada.
The presence of China as a leading global power is considered one of the most significant geopolitical events in recent history.
Leaders of the G7 countries are meeting in southwest England to discuss several issues. One of them is to respond to Xi Jinping’s increasing assertiveness, due to China’s soaring military and economic growth in the last 4 decades.
The leaders of these countries want to use this year’s G7 meeting to show the world that they can provide an alternative to the offerings offered by China.
For example, this group of countries plans to offer infrastructure schemes to developing countries.
This scheme has the potential to rival the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI; One Belt One Road/OBOR) scheme which was inaugurated by the Chinese government in 2013.
