Harianjogja.com, JAKARTA – In the midst of additional Covid-19 cases that are still increasing, people are required to wear masks, even to the point of having to wear double masks with cloth masks.
Unlike cloth masks that can be washed and reused, the use of medical masks must have special handling before being disposed of.
The Ministry of Health provides five steps to treat used medical mask waste before being disposed of.
“Management must be carried out properly so as not to cause harmful and toxic impacts on human health and the environment,” wrote the Ministry of Health through social media, Thursday (8/7/2021).
First, collect used masks. Then there are 2 ways that can be done to manage medical mask waste, namely by disinfection and changing the shape.
If you want to disinfect, you can do this by soaking the used mask in a disinfectant, chlorine, or bleach solution.
Meanwhile, if you want to change the shape, you can first collect the used masks into a safe plastic container. For individual masks, the strap is broken and the middle of the mask is torn so that it cannot be reused.
Furthermore, the masks can be disposed of in the domestic trash.
“Remember, when handling this waste, safety must be prioritized by wearing masks, gloves and washing hands with soap,” explained the Ministry of Health.
