The ‘nightmare’ in a night of drinks: it’s time to pay the bill and after doing the due math to see how much each person has to pay, you swipe your card and hear some ‘terrifying’ words: “Sorry, it marks a rejected card”.
Did you really run out of ‘wool’? Actually, there are several reasons why banking institutions can block your customer’s cards and several of them have to do with the safety of your money.
unusual expenses
Get to do the math: between the pantry, money that goes into transportation and/or food apps, and other pending items, your card should have a weekly spending average.
BBVA points out that when they detect atypical large expensesthat is almost never dothe debit card can be blocked on suspicion that someone other than you is using the plastic.
Expiration
Like everything in life, debit cards also expire. One of the reasons to block it is that without you noticing, the expiration date has already passed, warns HSBC.
You can check that data on the obverse (the front side), under the card number. There should appear the month (from 01 to 12) and the year in which your plastic will ‘say goodbye’.
You are out of Mexico
If you will take advantage of the Easter holidays to leave the country, remember to notify your bank. If you don’t and you make a payment with your debit card, it will be detected as a suspicious movement and will result in a block.
