Don’t Say Badminton Champion If You Haven’t Been…

Taufik Hidayat was present as a guest star on The Badminton Experience podcast. Podcast by Danish badminton players Anders Antonsen and Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus.

In the 49-minute podcast, Antonsen and Hans asked a lot of questions about Taufik Hidayat’s heyday. No doubt, Taufik Hidayat is a world badminton legend from Indonesia.

Even Antonsen and Hans admitted that they were both fans of Taufik!

There was an interesting topic when they discussed the 2004 Athens Olympics. That was the moment when Taufik Hidayat win a gold medal.

“If you win many titles without ever winning an Olympic medal, you will feel small,” said Taufik.

“But if you win the Olympics just once . . . ” he added, puffing out his chest.

Taufik Hidayat revealed, he was grateful to have won Olympic gold. In the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Taufik actually had a chance, but fate said otherwise.

“Back then even I was ranked number one in the world and maybe overconfident, I lost to Ji Xinpeng in the quarterfinals,” he said.

“Then (Olympics 2004-ed), Lin Dan lost in the first round, wow I’m happy. Then I advanced, the first round, the quarter-finals, the final,” he added.

“99 percent you have to work hard, but the rest is God’s destiny. If God says no, then no. When the 2004 Olympics, I was lucky, I didn’t believe I could win it,” he added.
