Don’t panic when your child has a fever, here are the tips

Liputan6.com, Denpasar – Fever is a reaction in the body when viruses, bacteria and other foreign substances enter the body. The reaction is generally identified by differences in body temperature and resistance. Fever often affects children.

Fever, cough or cold in children certainly makes parents worry. However, in general, fever in children is not caused by anything dangerous, even fever is a good sign that there are signs of a defensive reaction in a child who has a disease or is growing physically, causing fever.

If the fever in adults occurs when the body temperature reaches 38-39 degrees Celsius, fever in infants and children occurs when the body temperature reaches 37 degrees Celsius to more. This is caused by differences in body temperature and endurance between adults and babies or children.

Through a health webinar, a pediatrician from Siloam Hospitals Denpasar, dr. I Gusti Ngurah Twi Adyana, Sp.A., stated that the fundamental thing of fever is that when a fever occurs, it must be measured with a thermometer and must not rely on the parents’ touch or feelings. So, how to deal with fever in children during the current Covid-19 Pandemic?

He explained that the causes of this fever could vary, even during the Covid-19 Pandemic period. In addition to the body’s reaction to infection or disease symptoms, fever can mean a period of organ growth for the baby.

“The point is not to worry, face fever in children with independent treatment and pay attention to the early symptoms that accompany the presence of fever in the child’s body”, he explained in the Health Webinar entitled “Overcoming Fever in Children in the Era of the Covid-19 Pandemic”, Wednesday (12/08 / 2020) which was held by the management of Siloam Hospitals Denpasar, attended by dozens of participants from the families of pediatric patients at the hospital.

He explained that the independent handling of fever in children includes giving water or breast milk to babies to respond to the child’s rising body temperature reaction, wearing loose clothing so that the child is comfortable as well as facilitating the evaporation reaction of body temperature and independent handling through compressing the body with warm water.

“And finally give fever-reducing drugs according to the dosage applicable to the child’s age level,” he explained.
