Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Today many users have reported WhatsApp down and you cannot send messages. However, this is unrelated to WhatsApp’s plans to stop the service on some types of phones.
As of Monday (10/24/2022), some mobile phones will no longer be able to use WhatsApp. The reason is that the messaging platform has discontinued support on some older Android and iOS operating systems (OS).
Some of the operating systems that WhatsApp no longer supports are iOS 10 and iOS 11. The company will only be able to work on smartphones with iOS 12 and later, while for Android phones it is OS version 4.1 or later.
“Like other tech companies, we annually review which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest users to determine which support will be discontinued,” WhatsApp wrote, quoted by its official website.
Older OS devices cannot support the latest WhatsApp security features. The phone may not even have the functionality needed to run WhatsApp.
At 2:20 pm WIB, the number of complaints from WhatsApp users on the Down Detector site nearly reached 3,000. Especially for users in Indonesia, the number of complaints has exceeded 6,800.
Most users claim that they cannot send messages via WhatsApp.
Some smartphones can still use WhatsApp by updating the operating system to the latest version. An example is iOS 10 and iOS 11 with an update to iOS 12, so you can continue using WhatsApp.
For example, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S users can update their iOS to the latest version if they want to use WhatsApp.
But this doesn’t apply to iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C. Launch Business Insiderboth phones are not compatible with iOS 12 and therefore will no longer be able to use WhatsApp in the future.
