Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – WhatsApp GB or WA GB applications are the subject of discussion. But it turns out, this application that only runs on Android is not official from WhatsApp and holds a big danger.
The National Cyber and Password Agency or BSSN is dangerous using unofficial applications. The agency reminded to always use applications from trusted sources.
In an upload on its Twitter, BSSN also explained the dangers of WA GB. The application is indeed similar to WhatsApp but not developed by the company.
It even said the WA GB application was unofficial and not available on the official Android store, the Play Store.
“Do you know that Siberman, downloading and installing unofficial applications can be dangerous to our devices and even our personal data,” wrote BSSN, quoted on Monday (31/5/2021).
BSSN equates to six risks of downloading and installing unofficial applications:
1. Vulnerable to Malware infiltration
According to BSSN, applications in official application stores such as the Play Store and App Store still have security holes. Especially if the application is not from the official application store.
2. Data is Threatened to be Abused
The next risk is the threat of personal data being misused by certain parties. Because certain applications often ask for permission to retrieve user data to access all contacts.
3. Can Be Blocked by Official Apps
The fake application user’s account is threatened with being permanently blocked by the official application developer.
4. There are Strange Applications Installed
Not infrequently there will also be other applications installed. Even though mobile phone users only install one modified application.
5. Repeated Advertising
By installing an unofficial application, a large number of advertisements will appear. Obviously this reduces the experience of using a smartphone so it is less comfortable and disturbed.
6. Bringing Virus
This unofficial application may carry viruses. That way it can attack the smartphone operating system slowly. In the end, the work of the smartphone when used becomes slow and uncomfortable.
