Don’t Get It, This is a Characteristic of Heart Disease at a Young Age

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Heart disease can affect anyone regardless of age. Formerly Heart attack is a disease that mainly affects the elderly. It is rare for people under the age of 40 to have a heart attack. However, now 1 in 5 heart attack patients are under 40 years old.

Dr. Lawrence Chan, a cardiologist from Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL) said that the prevalence of coronary heart disease in young adults is slowly increasing due to an unhealthy lifestyle. Factors causing coronary heart disease in young children include smoking, obesity, lack of physical activity, and other reasons that put stress on the cardiovascular system. Another factor that cannot be avoided is genetic factors, namely a family history of heart disease.

Therefore, it is important for young people to recognize what are the characteristics of heart disease at a young age so that it can be detected early and treatment can be done as soon as possible.

“Prevention is better than cure and awareness of heart health can increase the possibility to prevent fatal conditions from occurring. Health checks or screenings can detect abnormalities in a person’s body system, so they can be treated at the earliest possible stage,” he said, in a press release received by CNBC Indonesia, Wednesday (20/7/2022).

The characteristics of heart disease at a young age that are rarely realized are the body easily limp, pain in the chest that radiates to the neck or arms, dizziness, heartburn, chest palpitations, paleness, pain in the throat and jaw.

The slower the treatment is carried out, the higher the risk of complications such as stroke, permanent heart damage or even death.

“If there is a second heart attack at a young age, the risk of death or stroke may occur,” he explained.

Then, how to prevent it?

The best prevention effort is to change your lifestyle for the better. While still young, maintain a healthy diet, be active, avoid smoking, and do regular heart check-ups.
