Don’t expect more news from Skull & Bones for this year

Except for this news then.

Ubisoft remains very quiet about many games, such as a new Splinter Cell, Beyond Good and Evil 2 and Skull & Bones. It was hoped that the last in line would be featured in Ubisoft Forward tonight, but Ubisoft is now tempering those expectations in a new update.

In a blog post gives Ubisoft a much needed update on Skull & Bones. The good news is that the game is still actively in development, but the helm has been changed (pun intended) in terms of the vision of the game. That is also the reason why the game was postponed. “We dreamed bigger things for Skull & Bones, and these ambitions naturally came with bigger challenges,” the message says.

More info next year

Ubisoft does not say what those “bigger ambitions” are, but it is already expected that the game will be a full-fledged open world pirate game instead of focusing purely on naval battles. So the game would be similar to Black Flag, but without being part of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

The development team has since been expanded. The game is originally being developed by Ubisoft Singapore, but can also count on the help of Ubisoft Berlin, Chengdu, Kiev, Paris and the Philippines. The team promises a “comeback” next year. This year we do not have to expect any new updates to the game.
