Jakarta –
PT PLN (Persero) said that electricity bill payments in the household sector may increase this month. However, the reason is not because of the government’s policy of increasing electricity tariffs.
PLN’s Director of Commerce and Customer Management, Bob Saril, explained that the electricity payment was generated from the volume of electricity used and then multiplied by the applicable tariff. This means that electricity payments depend on people’s electricity consumption.
In this month, according to him, the use of electricity will be large, the reason is because it has entered the school holiday period. Household activities will eventually increase, the use of electricity such as for air conditioning and watching TV will be more frequent. This is allegedly going to make electricity payments swell.
“Maybe later this month an account will be issued, suddenly the payment will increase. What could the increase in payments be because of the volume? School children are starting to take a break,” he said, in a virtual talk at the Merdeka Barat 9 Forum, Friday (17/6/2022).
On that basis, he asked the public not to accuse the government of raising tariffs, if later when the payment rose more than usual. “Suddenly he complained, ‘Sir, how come my payment has increased? Wow, this is a lie. This government is lying'” he added.
He emphasized that there was no increase in electricity tariffs this June. “There will not be any tariff increase. It will not be adjusted this month. Nothing,” he said.
The electricity increase will be implemented on July 1, 2022 which is intended for customers with groups of 3,500 VA and above (R2 and R3) and government groups (P1, P2, and P3) or non-subsidized customer groups.
The Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Rida Mulyana, explained that the increase was influenced by the exchange rate, inflation, crude oil prices (ICP), and coal prices.
“ICP and inflation affect the tariff adjustment, which will be implemented starting in the third quarter of 2022,” he said.
