Heart failure is a very scary disease. Because patients who have heart failure have a life expectancy of approximately 50%. While inpatients, the mortality rate is even higher, namely 17-20%.
However, heart failure can actually be prevented from an early age. Cardiologist, dr. Siti Elkana Nauli SpJP said controlling the risk factors, namely hypertension, coronary heart disease, and diabetes could be a powerful way.
“The choice of medication for a patient from the start must be diagnosed correctly, whether it’s hypertension, diabetes, or coronary heart disease,” said dr. Siti, in a press release received by Okezone, Tuesday (29/09/2020).
If the patient has risk factors for heart failure, it is prevented from developing heart failure. You do this by providing the best therapy, because the mechanism of heart failure is very complex involving many pathways.
“Although SGLT2 is not known to inhibit (the process of heart failure) from which path, but research has proven its effect is very positive for heart failure patients, both with diabetes and without diabetes,” he added.
When patients with diabetes, hypertension or coronary heart disease are diagnosed for the first time, they already have early symptoms of heart failure. Doctor Siti suggested, to provide aggressive therapy with the aim of improving the quality of life would prevent recurrent hospital treatments.

“That way the patient’s quality of life improves and does not develop into end-stage heart failure,” he concluded.
