Donovan Carrillo receives the award in New York

This Thursday, October 27, Jalisco figure skater Donován Carrillo was honored by the New York Ice Theater Company for his “persistence and passion in figure skating”. The 22-year-old figure has called his recognition a “watershed” both in his professional career and for Mexican sports in general. The ceremony was attended by delegates from the Mexican Consulate in New York and through its official Twitter account the institution celebrated Donován’s success.

This year, Donovan Carrillo made history by becoming the first Mexican to qualify for a final figure skating at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, and managed to rank 22nd in Free Skating and 19th in the Short Program.

Now, the next step for the Mexican is to qualify for the 2006 Milan Winter Games and surpass the performance offered this year in Beijing.
