At the four or five donation dates that the local DRK association invites you to each year, you can usually welcome around 80 donors, says DRK president Tobias Schweitzer. In Steinweiler it is a good tradition to invite longtime blood donors to an evening of honor and also to serve food. Martina Machate, Andreas Mathäß, Michael Bohlender, Uwe Herrmann, Stefanie Widmayer and Nicolas Martz (all from Steinweiler) as well as Thorsten Schilling (Landau) received awards for 25 blood donations. Karlheinz Seubel, Ulrich Bär (all from Steinweiler) and Jens Herrmann from Niederhorbach “handed over” 75 blood donations. Five men have already donated blood 100 times: Lothar Bohlender, Michael Hauck, Reiner Rapp, Markus Scherrer and Jürgen Polling (all from Steinweiler).
And with Steinweiler’s Markus Braun, someone who has donated blood regularly since he was 18 was honored. He was an active member of DRK, the 55-year-old tells us. Only very rarely was he “not allowed” to donate, for example after a vacation in Africa or when he couldn’t do it for work. It is perfectly normal for him to help save lives by donating his blood. You see how important it is that enough blood is donated every day, says Markus Braun, who is still a passive member of the local DRK association. On Friday he received the honorary blood donor pin in gold for 125 donations. But soon he should be among the “honored” again. In fact, he has already donated blood 140 times, Markus Braun reports. But as the last award took place in 2019 and donations continued during the Crown period but weren’t honored, the number of donations increased.
The next blood donation appointment in Steinweiler is Wednesday 5 October from 17:00 to 20:30 in the town hall. Dates: https://www.drk-blutspende.de/blutspende/termine.
