On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, November 25, the Chiesa Rossa Library in Milan hosts the Gothy Lopez exhibition which is both a tribute and an invitation to reflection: Mujeres Virtuosas de América Latina.
The solo show, signed by the artist Gothy Lopez, presents a series of portraits of women who, throughout Latin American history, have embodied courage, wisdom and determination, modifying the social and cultural fabric of their time.
Lopez’s work transcends simple portraiture. Each image takes the form of a visual ode to female resilience and a manifesto against the oblivion that often envelops female figures of great value. These virtuous women, portrayed through energetic brushstrokes and vibrant color palettes, become archetypes of strength and resistance. Their presence on the canvas is not just representation but evocation: through art, Lopez brings to light lives that have challenged conventions, offering themselves as models for the new generations.
The exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the transformative role of women, raising questions about collective memory and the importance of restoring dignity to long-marginalized historical figures. Each portrait is an open window onto a world of struggles, achievements and dreams, transforming the exhibition into a tribute to women’s ability to shape society and its values. Lopez’s “virtuosos” are not just characters from the past: they are symbols of an inner strength that continues to pulsate in the present, urging those who observe to recognize and respect the female contribution to human progress.
The initiative, created in collaboration with the Italian-Salvadorian Women’s Association, aspires to become itinerant, expanding its range of action and becoming a true “artistic census” of exceptional female figures.

THE ARTIST
Gothy Lopez, was born in San Salvador, El Salvador in 1975. She is the most important Salvadoran artist on the international scene. He has exhibited numerous times in Europe, Asia and Latin America, winning several awards. Master’s Degree in Plastic Arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, engraving and ceramics) at the State University of El Salvador. He has done in-depth studies on artistic anatomy and artistic techniques and materials. He also worked as a professor of Artistic Drawing at the Department of Applied Arts, at the “Jose Matias Delgado” University of El Salvador. Among the most significant exhibitions is that of the Principality of Monaco in the presence of Prince Albert, that of the Artists’ Salon in Paris, that in the Chancellery Palace of the Vatican City, among others. He created the work “Romero Martire” for Pope Francis. He painted for the Basilica of Santo Stefano Maggiore in Milan the altarpiece dedicated to Santa Magdalena of Canossa, a very important place in Milan for preserving the act of baptism of Michelangelo Merisi known as Caravaggio. He was part of the International Selection Committee for the Florence Biennale. He received the highest honor from the Parliament of the Republic of El Salvador with a legislative decree as “Distinguida Pintora de El Salvador”. His works are part of public and private collections and have also been published by institutions such as the United Nations.
