Dongguk University WISE Campus Humanities and City Project Group opens Humanities Week

【Break News Gyeongju】Reporter Park Hee-kyung = Dongguk University WISE Campus (President Ryu Wan-ha) Humanities City Project Group (Director Hong Eun-sook) announced on the 15th that it will hold a Humanities Week festival.

This Humanities Week Festival, held by the Humanities City Project Group of Dongguk University Wise Campus ‘Gyeongju, Empathy Culture Coexistence Platform City’, will have an opening ceremony at Wonhyogwan Global Ace Hall, Dongguk University Wise Campus at 3pm on October 17th.

On this day, the opening ceremony will be attended by Ryu Wan-ha, President of Dongguk University Wise Campus, and Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young, and the signing of a business agreement between Dongguk University and Gyeongju City and the official declaration will be held.

In the second part of the humanities lecture following the opening ceremony, author Jeong Bo-ra will be invited to give a lecture on the topic of ‘Science Fiction and Empathy’. Author Jeong Bo-ra is a writer who has published novels such as and , and was a finalist in the translated literature category for the 2022 Booker Prize and the 2023 National Book Award.

Hong Eun-sook, head of the Dongguk University Wise Campus Humanities and Cities Project Group, said, “The Dongguk University Humanities and Cities Project Team mines little-known humanities assets in Gyeongju, connects them through local communities and networks, turns them into content, and maps them to create humanities assets. Through archiving, we have the ambition to realize Gyeongju as a city of empathetic culture and a win-win platform. “As a start, we hope for a lot of participation and interest in the Humanities Week (Humanities Festival) held by HK Project Group and Humanities City Project Group across the country,” he said.

The Humanities City Support Project, hosted by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, is a project to popularize humanities between universities and local residents by discovering local humanities assets and developing related programs through networks of universities and local communities. Dongguk University Wise Campus is carrying out the ‘Gyeongju, Sympathetic Culture Coexistence Platform City’ project with Gyeongju City, with a support of 500 million won for three years from September this year to August 2027.

Dongguk University WISE Campus (President Ryu Wan-ha) Humanities City Project Group (Director Hong Eun-sook) is hosting a Humanities Week Festival.

The opening ceremony of this Humanities Week Festival, hosted by the Dongguk University Wise Campus ‘Gyeongju, Empathy Culture Symbiotic Platform City’ Humanities City Project Group, will be held at 3 PM on October 17th at the Dongguk University Wise Campus Wonhyo Hall Global Ace Hall.

Dongguk University Wise Campus President Ryu Wan-ha and Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young will attend the opening ceremony, where the business agreement between Dongguk University and Gyeongju City will be signed and will be officially declared.

The second part of the Humanities Lecture following the opening ceremony will feature invited lectures by renowned speakers, including author Jeong Bo-ra, who will give a lecture on the topic of ‘SF and Empathy.’ Author Information Ra is the author of and , and was a finalist for the 2022 Booker Prize and the 2023 National Book Award for Translated Literature.
