Donaueschingen: New scam via messenger service “Whats App” – Two older citizens of Donaueschingen received messages from alleged family members

Crooks have come up with a new type of fraud using the “Whats App” messenger service. On Tuesday two elderly received
Donaueschinger citizens Whats App messages on the telephone number 0049 152 18015771, under which alleged family members reported in both cases. They asked for an amount of money to be transferred to a foreign bank account mentioned there, and one of the people they wrote actually transferred a four-figure sum to the account in good faith, the news came from his son.

This scam with messenger services is new and is similar in its execution to the numerous scams that are perpetrated by alleged police officers, Microsoft employees, doctors, lawyers or other “helpers”. The goal is always a monetary claim from the victims, which should be made by transfer or cash. In the case of the wrong PC helper / Microsoft employee, the crooks even get access to sensitive computer data and the online banking of their victims.

The police cannot warn enough of these fraudulent gangs and call on the population to remain sensitive. Especially older, gullible and
Helpful fellow human beings should be given special protection and they should be pointed out to these many types of fraud over and over again.
