DONAU Insurance warns: Safety first – be careful when clearing roofs!

As an insurance company, we are always on the side of our customers. We don’t want our customers to endanger themselves in view of the enormous amounts of snow. Clearing snow on exposed roofs is far more dangerous than the potential damage to the building. For private customers in the affected areas, DONAU Versicherung temporarily waives the obligation to remove snow from roofs for a short time in this dangerous situation and will provide the service after checking on a case-by-case basis

Vienna (OTS) – The onset of winter began with heavy snowfall in Carinthia and East Tyrol. An increased risk of avalanches, windy roads and enclosed towns, as well as high water levels in rivers and streams all create a dangerous situation. More snowfalls and rain are expected, the load on the roofs increases and exacerbates the situation for many homeowners. Many expose themselves to the danger and try to clear the roofs of their houses from snow.

Intensive snow pressure damage expected

The prevention and prevention of damage is one of the duties of the policyholder. When there is high snowfall, roofs – especially flat roofs – can be protected from serious damage by clearing the snow. Mild temperatures and the thaw during the day increase the weight and density of the snow. However, snow removal is very dangerous for homeowners. Falls from the roof often mean serious, existential injuries. If this is too dangerous, DONAU Versicherung temporarily waives the obligation of private customers to clear the roof themselves.
