A courageous experiment in 1950 has become a necessary routine: many millions of people have donated blood to the German Red Cross (DRK) in recent decades. Regular appeals, especially during the holiday season, remain indispensable. When it comes to supplying patients with vital blood products, the blood donation service starts from scratch every day. Around 14,000 blood donations are needed in Germany every day; this is why continuity in donating blood is so important.

Since the end of 2021, a 3G regulation has applied to all blood donation appointments from the DRK Blood Donation Service West (NRW/Rheinland-Palatinate/Saarland). Access is only granted to people who can show that they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested (rapid antigen test not older than 24 hours or PCR test not older than 48 hours).
