Blood donors are urgently needed at the moment. Because of the summer holidays, many supplies have been used up. There was even something to be won at a Wacken Open Air event at the University Hospital in Hamburg.
Hamburg – Numerous heavy metal fans took part in a joint campaign by Wacken Open Air and the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., interested people were able to donate blood at the UKE. In addition to live music, visitors were able to spin the Wacken Foundation’s wheel of fortune after their donation and thus had the opportunity to receive a limited edition shirt, the organizers announced.
Every year, the UKE needs around 40,000 blood units for operations, emergency treatments or to treat chronic diseases. At the same time, however, only 27,000 blood donations are obtained, it said. “Many people rely on the clinic having enough blood units, but there are less than two percent of donors in Hamburg,” the UKE said.
