Donate Blood and Save Lives: Urgent Need for Donors during Festive and Dengue/Chikungunya Seasons

According to the National Blood Program, in festive periods such as Easter Week, road accidents due to travel generally increase and, therefore, the need for blood in hospitals.

On the other hand, throughout the year, the need to have a reserve in blood services is of vital importance, however, currently, with the increase in dengue and chikungunya cases, the number of donors has decreased, a situation that makes it difficult to possibility of covering the requirements in hospital services.

For this reason, the Ministry of Public Health calls for the solidarity of people who are in good health conditions to approach the nearest post to make a voluntary donation, before embarking on a trip, in order to help meet transfusion needs.

Donating blood is an act that must be carried out constantly, to contribute to the supply of the stock required in public and private blood services. In that context, donors are urged to make the “next station” a place to donate blood:

La Casa del Donante: located at Avda. España 2,210 almost Venezuela, from Monday to Friday, from 07:00 to 17:00.

CENSSA (next to the Trauma hospital): Monday to Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday Sundays, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Hemocenter of the Hospital de Clínicas.

Producer Center of the regional hospital of Encarnación: on Jorge Menmel and Independencia Nacional, from Monday to Friday, from 07:00 to 17:00.

National Hospital Production Center: Monday to Sunday, from 06:00 to 17:30.

Casa del Donor in Ciudad del Este: Monday to Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

IPS Blood Production Center: Monday to Sunday, from 06:30 a.m. to 05:30 p.m. (except Good Friday).

Likewise, to the Transfusion Medicine Unit of the following hospitals:

San Lorenzo Transfusion Medicine Unit: at the San Lorenzo hospital, Monday to Saturday, from 07:00 to 12:30.

Capiatá Transfusion Medicine Unit: Tuesday, from 07:00 to 15:00.

General Hospital of Luque: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Colonel Hospital. Oviedo: Monday to Friday, from 06:30 to 11:30 and from 12:30 to 17:30.

Pilar Hospital: Monday to Thursday, from 07:00 to 12:00.

National Institute of Cardiology (INC) (San Jorge Hospital): Monday to Saturday, from 07:00 to 12:00.

Basic requirements to donate blood

To donate blood, you need to be 18 years old and up to 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kg, as well as be a healthy person, with no history of recent illnesses or surgeries. Women who are pregnant or lactating cannot donate.

It is mandatory to present the identity card, and it is not necessary to be fasting.
