Donate blood – also for war victims

Bad Nauheim (pm). The drastic drop in the number of blood donations after the outbreak of the corona pandemic in spring 2020 was the initial spark for the “Vampire Day at GZW”, a joint blood donation campaign of the municipal hospital network Gesundheitszentrum Wetterau (GZW) and the blood donation service of the Gießen-Marburg University Hospital (UKGM ). »Now, two years later, we are faced with a new situation:

The general willingness to donate blood is not yet back to the level it was before the pandemic, and with the war wounded from Ukraine coming to Germany for treatment, the need is rising sharply. We are therefore hoping for a good response to our next, now 7th, ‘Vampire Day at the GZW’ on March 10, 2022,” explains GZW Managing Director Dr. Dirk M Fellermann.

Register yet for free places

Like last time, the blood donation campaign will take place under 3G conditions. This means that only people who can prove that they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested, with an antigen rapid test not older than 24 hours and a PCR test not older than may be 48 hours. The tests cannot be carried out in the blood donation center. As with the last donation campaigns, the blood donation center may only be entered with an FFP2 protective mask.

For hygiene and organizational reasons, a binding registration is also required. A total of 80 donation slots are available between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, some of which – as of yesterday – are still free (especially in the early afternoon). For the binding registration, go to the website www.gesundheitszentrum-wetterau.de/1748/ and use the list displayed there. You can see at a glance whether there is still a place available on the desired date. If this is not the case, you are asked to switch to another date. After registration, a confirmation email will be sent to the specified email address.

GZW Managing Director Fellermann points out the great importance of blood donations: “In the interest of all seriously and seriously ill people who are dependent on blood donations for various reasons, we hope that despite the difficult situation there will be lively participation in our day of action. We all must always be aware that each and every one of us could also be dependent on blood donations from one day to the next, for example due to an accident or a sudden serious illness. This is where our solidarity is needed!«
