Doñana expects a good wintering of migratory birds after a rainy autumn | Radio Huelva

Heavy rains this fall have filled the marsh of Mother and the Most of the pike from the marsh of the Doñana Natural Area.

The previous hydrological year, 2019-2020, it was pretty dry overall and extremely dry in autumn, with a total of 472 liters per square meter. However, this 2020-2021 rainfall is being recorded more in line with the usual for the season, even somewhat above average, with 178 liters per square meter until November 30.

The rains have managed to fill the Mother and most of the marsh pike. The Caño de la Madre continues to the south of the marsh until approximately the Martinazo pike. The Guadiamar spout has barely caught water and the spout Naughty It has not yet come into operation, it needs more rainfall for it.

The director of Doñana Natural Area, Juan Pedro Castellano, augurs a good wintering of birds if the rains continue this coming winter. The fall and winter rains are also essential for the breeding season in spring. For the moment, “the autumn has started very well” and “the flooding of the marsh will be the ideal one”, in his opinion. “The image of Doñana is very beautiful at the moment.”
