Tusk, who became the leader of the liberal Civic Platform on Saturday, which he co-founded, has been president of the EPP since 2019, a group uniting center-right parties in Europe.
He said talks on his successor to head the EPP would begin in the autumn.
“Of course, I can formally be the leader of the party … and of the European People’s Party, which unites many European right-wing parties,” Tusk told reporters.
