Interview For the American writer Viet Thanh Nguyen, the election of the Republican tycoon, who is preparing to enter the White House for a second time, is anything but a break in the history of the United States. The author remains hopeful, however, in his country’s capacity to protest and resist.
Viet Thanh Nguyen is the author of “Sympathizer”, a virtuoso novel about the Vietnam War which won the Pulitzer Prize in 2016. It was just before the election of Donald Trump to the White House. Since then, this writer, son of Vietnamese refugees, who arrived in the United States at the age of 4, has become one of the major voices of the American intellectual left.

For Nguyen, who admits to having been fascinated by the figures of committed French writers from the mid-20th century such as Albert Camus or Jean-Paul Sartre, the political fight is inseparable from writing. We wanted to speak with the writer the day after the presidential election of November 5 won by the Republican magnate who is returning to power.
