The Twitter account of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is now active again. The account had been suspended following the sharing of a video that violated the company’s policy on disclosure of pirated private information.
The video in question was related to a story in the New York Post about alleged connections by Hunter Biden, one of the sons of former vice president and Democratic candidate Joe Biden, to the Ukrainian energy company. Several people linked to the Trump campaign and the White House who shared the same video also saw their accounts blocked, but this also proved to be valid for other users without connections to the current president, such as journalists who shared the story.
Contacted by Reuters, Twitter declined to clarify why the campaign account had been unlocked.
However, the Senate Judiciary Committee decides to summon the executive director of the social network to testify before the senators on the matter. The Senate is expected to vote if the subpoena is in fact sent on the 20th. Jack Dorsey, the top Twitter official, has already acknowledged via tweet the lack of communication on this issue, labeling the decision not to inform the reasons for blocking the accounts in question as “unacceptable”.
