Donald Trump’s Reaction to Vladimir Putin’s Praise and Ukraine Conflict: American Media Stir

Donald Trump’s reaction when he in an interview with NBC was passed on praise from Vladimir Putin, is now causing a great stir in the American media.

In the program “Meet the Press”, presenter Kristen Welker repeated a recent statement from the Russian president, in which he referred to Trump’s election promise to “solve” the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, if he is re-elected.

– We are very pleased with it, Putin said of the statement, during a conference in Vladivostok.

– I like that he said that, because it means that what I say is correct, Trump answered in the NBC interview.

Will not elaborate

The claim about his own peacemaking skills was presented by Trump earlier this year, as part of the election campaign. He is standing as a candidate in next year’s presidential election.

Had he been president last year, he claimed, full-scale war would never have broken out. If he wins the presidential election next year, he promised that he would see an end to the year-long conflict within 24 hours.

Admittedly, he did not elaborate on how he intended to achieve this. Apparently he still doesn’t want to.

Trump explained to NBC that he would bring the Russian and Ukrainian presidents together “and work out a deal”. He claimed that such an agreement, negotiated by himself, would be “fair to all”.

He didn’t want to say more.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has also said that the war will probably end at the negotiating table, but that the outcome of such negotiations will depend on how strong Ukraine stands on the battlefield.

He has repeatedly used that as an argument for maintaining solid support for Ukraine among the NATO countries.

– Very good relationship

The former US president, on the other hand, has been critical of the US’s extensive support for Ukraine. He has also for a number of years received harsh criticism for his approach to the Russian president.

He has long played down US intelligence’s conclusion about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. In 2020, a report from the Senate Intelligence Committee, consisting of both Republicans and Democrats, agreed with the conclusion that Russia went out of its way to help him win the election .

Trump has also repeatedly spoken warmly of Vladimir Putin.

He has referred to the war in Ukraine as “idiotic”, and in the recent interview he commented on the Russians’ attack on civilian Ukrainians.

– It’s horrible, all of it, he said.

When asked if he would welcome Putin’s support, he replied that the two have “a very good relationship” and that he considers it an advantage.

He then repeated earlier claims that the full-scale invasion would never have happened if he himself was in the White House.

– What happened now – it’s so bad.
