“My opinion is that now we have abortion where everyone wanted it from a legal point of view (…) At the end of the day, it’s all about the will of the people,” Donald Trump said Monday morning in a video posted on his official Truth Social account, his own social network.
Although the former president has not provided more details about his political position on abortion, he has stressed that defends the right to terminate pregnancy in cases of rape or incest, as well as in those situations in which the mother’s life is at risk.
In his video, Trump added that “states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both, and what they decide should be the law of the land…Many states will be different. Many will have a different number of weeks, or some will be more conservative than others… At the end of the day, this all depends on the will of the people.”

After several weeks, Trump takes a position on abortion
These statements come at a time when Trump is trying to neutralize what in recent times has become one of the greater Republican disadvantages ahead of the elections, as is his position on reproductive rights, reports the US agency Bloomberg.
According to Politico.com, Trump’s statement “is likely to disappoint anti-abortion groups who expected him to use his pulpit to support national restrictions on abortion.”
Speaking to Politico.com, Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of an anti-abortion group, said she was “very disappointed” by Donald Trump’s position and that “he cedes the national debate to the Democrats.” Dannenfelser thought last week that the former president would push for a national ban after 15 weeks.
The Democratic Party has been able to gain ground on this matter after the United States Supreme Court – dominated by Republicans – annulled the “Roe vs Wade” case in May 2022, giving free rein to states to restrict and even totally prohibit the right to abortion.
In fact, Trump perceives the position on abortion as a determining factor when choosing your running mate to try to revalidate the position in the next November elections, in what the magnate understands as a delicate balancing act to convince moderate and also more radical Republicans.
