Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harrisis narrowing the lead in the polls over his Republican rival, Donald Trumpin the southern and southwestern states, an area that was comfortably on the conservative side before the president Joe Biden would give up seeking re-election.
Trump’s wide leads in polls of voting intention in states such as Nevada, Arizona o Georgia are fading away, something that is increasing the nervousness of the Republican campaign and of Trump himself, who has called an unexpected press conference today.
The influential electoral analysis center Cook Political Report announced this Thursday that they are no longer estimating those three states as “leaning towards the Republicans” but rather a projection of a “tie”, in what they define as the “reset” that the confirmation of the ballot of Kamala Harris and his running mate, Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz.
The FiveThirtyEight polling average in Arizona has gone from giving Trump a lead of more than two points to just one point behind, while the average for RealClearPolitics (RCP) gives the Republican a lead of almost three points compared to five a month ago.
Nevada, a state that Democrats until recently considered a loss in their internal calculations, is now in a technical tie in the latest polls, although the RCP polling average still gives Trump a four-point lead, slightly less than the five-point advantage Trump had over Biden.
In Georgia, Trump’s lead in the polling media has completely disappeared and Harris is now tied and trending upward, which complicates things for the Republicans, if they do not, as it seems, also lose strength in the key states of the Midwest.
Stephanie Grishamwho was a spokesman during part of Trump’s presidency (2017-2021), said on social media that the Republican’s unexpected announcement of a press conference this Thursday at his Mar-a-Lago residence is proof that “he has panicked.”
«Trump believes his team is failing him and no one can save him or defend him like he can. He hates the coverage Harris is getting»he noted.
Since they began their tour of several key states on Tuesday, the Harris-Walz duo has been drawing more than 10,000 people and filling the venues where they appear, something that those who know Trump say is one of the metrics he most focuses on in his rivals. EFE (I)
