Donald Trump’s landslide victory

“It will be the new golden age for the United States.” From the stage of the Palm Beach Convention Center Donald Trump has announced his triumph, before formal confirmation arrived after official victories in North Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

As in 2016, Trump regained the so-called blue wall (blue wall, formed by Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin) in a close duel with Kamala Harris, who suffers one of the most sensational defeats of the Democrats in a long time. The return to the Republicans in Georgia and the victory in North Carolina are a clear sign of this: the Democratic candidate had focused heavily on both states, trying to leverage the large African-American community in the first and the internal disputes over Mark’s choice in the second Robinson as a gubernatorial candidate. Arguments probably overshadowed by the damage caused by Hurricane Helene in recent months, which paved the way towards the domination of the south-east so hoped for by Trump during the election campaign.

Overwhelming victory on all fronts, therefore, and almost certainly on the rest of the fronts swing states: with counts almost completed in Michigan, Arizona and Nevada, the decisive disproportion of votes in counties and rural areas, won by the Republican candidate, who left room for Harris only in large cities or some parts of them.

Trump’s triumph also comes from the majority obtained in the next Senate, controlled until now by the Democrats. The Republican Party has in fact reached 51 senators elected out of a total of one hundred, after having won two seats previously occupied by Democrats, with seven still to be assigned out of the 34 that are being renewed in this round.

In the chamber, meanwhile, the result is still uncertain, even if at the moment the Republican Party is ahead with 195 seats, against the Democrats’ 176. To obtain a majority, one of the two forces will have to reach 218 seats.

Surprisingly, Trump also ultimately won the popular vote. The Republican won around 51 percent of the vote nationally (with more than 70 million votes), against 47.5 percent for Kamala Harris, with almost five million preferences ahead of her rival.
