Donald Trump’s financial slump

If only it were real: Supporters print their own money with the picture of the president.

Donald Trump likes to describe himself as super rich. But there are signs that his financial position is not rosy – and that it could darken if he loses his position.

“I am really rich.” With this sentence recommended Donald Trump the Americans when he announced his candidacy for president in his Trump Tower in New York in June 2015. To emphasize this, he had descended a gold-plated escalator on the way to his speech. How rich Trump really is, however, is a mystery. His company, the Trump Organization, largely keeps its financial data under wraps. Contrary to what is usual for presidents, Trump does not make his personal tax returns public. He himself boasted during his campaign in a statement in capital letters that his fortune comprised “TEN BILLION DOLLARS”. But he has given reason enough to doubt his words.

Not least with a remark that has become famous during a legal dispute in 2007. He said at the time: “My wealth fluctuates. It goes up and down, with the markets and with points of view and with feelings, even my own feelings. ”The magazine“ Forbes ”puts Trump’s fortune at any rate at 2.5 billion dollars. That would also be a handsome amount, but without a doubt less than he himself would claim. Just recently, during a television appearance, when asked about alleged debts of more than $ 400 million, he said that this was only “a tiny percentage” of his wealth, a “peanut”.
