Donald Trump’s competitor Nikki Haley drops out

Nikki Haley was the main, and only remaining, competitor against Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination. After Super Tuesday, where Haley underperformed, she is now dropping out.

In a speech in South Carolina on Wednesday, Haley said she has no regrets about her campaign and believes she has given Americans a voice.

– Even though I am no longer a candidate, I will not stop using my voice for what I believe in, said Nikki Haley.

Furthermore, she described her conservative values and that she thinks the country is going in the wrong direction, both regarding its large national debt and foreign policy.

Lost big to Trump

Donald Trump has dominated against Nikki Haley in the race to become the Republican presidential candidate. During Super Tuesday, the lead was cemented as the former president declared himself victorious in 12 out of 16 states.

According to an adviser to Nikki Haley, the plan was to drop out if Haley did not receive at least 40 percent of the vote in several electoral districts during Super Tuesday, writes CNN.

Haley does not urge voting for Trump

Nikki Haley is not officially endorsing Trump’s presidential campaign. She quoted Margaret Thatcher during her speech and said that people should decide for themselves who they vote for. She urged Donald Trump to win over her supporters himself.

– It is now up to Donald Trump to convince those in our party who did not support him. I hope he does.

According to a polling station poll from North Carolina yesterday, however, this could be difficult for Donald Trump:

Only 18 percent of Haley’s voters said in the survey that they would vote Republican in the presidential election even if Haley were not the candidate.
