Donald Trump wants to visit the border area in Mexico. In his announcement, he describes it as a “disaster area” – and raves about its wall.

Austin – It was one of Donald Trump’s key promises in the 2016 election campaign: the wall on the border with Mexico. With “Build that wall” shouts he heated up his fanatical fans. Now the former US President has announced that he will visit the US’s southern border in Texas. Trump said he accepted an invitation from Texas Governor Greg Abbott for June 30th. He wanted to get an impression of the “severely weakened” southern border for himself.

In his communication, Donald Trump spoke of the border region as a “disaster area”. The new US administration inherited one of the “strongest” and “safest” borders and handed control over to cartels, criminals and people smugglers. Of course, Trump has no evidence of this. There is, however, abundant evidence of how easily the “beautiful” wall can be overcome.

USA: Donald Trump wants to visit “his” wall – Texas wants to continue building it despite the Biden decision

Trump had promised in the election campaign to build a “great, beautiful wall” on the 3200 kilometers long southern border of the USA. The aim is to keep illegal immigrants and “criminals” away from the USA. Shortly before the end of his term in office, he had celebrated at the Wall. Trump’s successor, Joe Biden, had suspended plans for the wall as one of his first acts. About 400 miles (644 km) of wall were built during Trump’s tenure.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced last week that he would push ahead with the construction of Donald Trump’s wall independently of the Washington government. How the Abbott will do this is still open. The enormous costs in particular will hardly be able to be met by Texas alone.

Rather, it will be an attempt by the Texan to keep putting pressure on Joe Biden. Alongside Trump, Abbott is one of a number of Republicans who accuse Biden of having triggered a crisis on the southern border with his comparatively liberal migration policy. The US government is under increasing pressure because of the increasing number of undocumented migrants crossing the border.

However, the White House referred in a statement on Tuesday to “four years of chaos and mismanagement” under Trump. However, in March Biden sent Vice President Kamala Harris to the southern border to see the situation there. The US immigration system must be reformed and the causes of flight in the countries of origin must be tackled. (as with dpa)
