Donald Trump Vows to Continue Presidential Campaign Despite Possible Conviction

The former president of the United States (EU), Donald Trump (2017-2021), said this Friday that if he is convicted in any of the court cases he is facing, he will not end his electoral campaign for the 2024 presidential elections.

“There is nothing in the Constitution that says so,” he said on the radio program The John Fredericks Show.

Trump spoke a day after special counsel Jack Smith filed new charges against him of obstruction of justice and another of intentional withholding of classified information in the case of the documents found in his Mar-a-Lago (Florida) mansion. , for which he was already charged in May.

The new charges relate to alleged attempts to remove video surveillance footage at that residence in the summer of 2022, but Trump said today that he provided what they asked: “They have my tapes.”

Judge Aileen Cannon established last week that the trial for the handling of those classified documents that he took from the White House when he left power begins in May 2024, when there will be just over six months left for the US presidential elections.

Asked if he would end his electoral campaign if convicted and convicted, the former Republican president was emphatic: “Not at all,” he said.

Trump also faces a probable new charge for his role in the assault of thousands of his supporters on the country’s Capitol on January 6, 2021, which took place while Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the November 2020 elections was ratified. .

Trump reiterated his allegation that it is a political persecution against him by the “radical left”: “They are using the Department of Justice and the FBI to go after candidates. It’s a fairly common tactic in the third world and now this country is using it for the first time.”

In his opinion, he is trying to “intimidate” people into “telling lies” about him.

Trump is the first former president in US history to be indicted. In addition to the Mar-a-Lago case, a grand jury indicted him in New York in March for allegedly illegally paying porn actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election campaign in exchange for her silence on the “affair” between ten years before.

The former president said that he tries to protect his family from these legal cases.

“But it’s always unpleasant when you have to tell them, ‘By the way, tomorrow sometime I’m going to be charged.’ And that she (referring to her wife, Melania Trump) asks you why and you say ‘I have no idea’.
