The 49-year-old man was driving towards the election meeting in a black SUV when he was stopped by the police, who had set up a checkpoint. He was released on bail on Sunday and is due in court on January 2.
“The incident did not affect the safety of Trump or any of the participants at the election meeting,” Riverside County police said in a statement.
According to the newspaper Media Enterprise They were arrested about five kilometers from the place where the election meeting was held.
Sheriff Chad Bianco tells the newspaper that they believe the 49-year-old intended to kill Trump. He was stopped after showing a fake VIP pass and press card.
