Donald Trump – The mockery of strange attacks

NEW YORK (Dagbladet): On Saturday night, Trump held one of his typical election rallies in Georgia. Here he repeated, among other things, the completely undocumented allegations that the election was stolen from him. During his speech, he also showed a manipulated image, which combined Liz Cheney and former President George W. Bush as one and the same person.

On Sunday, Congressman Cheney will respond Twitter.

Strikes back

“I like Republican presidents who win re-election,” Cheney wrote, along with a photo of the former Republican president, George W. Bush.

Bush won re-election in 2004 when he defeated Democratic candidate John Kerry. Cheney’s father, Dick Cheney, was Bush’s vice president.

The manipulated image was originally sent out Thursday by the political action committee Save America, which supports Trump. with the title: «ICYMI: Must-See Photo».

However, Trump himself has not been able to tweet out the picture. This is because he was banned from his former favorite platform after the deadly attack on Congress on January 6, writes The Guardian.

The deadly attack occurred when Congress was to certify the election of Joe Biden as the next president of the United States 14 days later. Trump has still not acknowledged the defeat despite an almost endless series of recounts and rounds in the judiciary.

Furious

Just before the deadly attack on January 6, Trump gave a speech to incited supporters. There he asked supporters to march to Congress and “fight like hell” to get the election result reversed. Five people died in the attack, and so far more than 650 people are accused of having participated.

Cheney was one of ten Republicans in the House of Representatives who voted to put Trump on trial for the attack. Since then, Trump has been furious with her, and she has been forced out of the Republican Party leadership.

Trump is also trying to support a Republican opponent to beat her in the Wyoming congressional election.

Flirting with re-election

Trump became the only US president to stand trial twice. However, he was not convicted as only seven Republicans in the Senate voted with the Democrats to convict him. Thus, he is still free to stand for re-election again in 2024.

Trump himself continues to flirt with this idea. Previously, only one US president, Grover Cleveland, was re-elected after first losing an attempt at re-election. It happened in the 1880s.

However, Trump still has a strong grip on the party. He and organizations around him are already running a massive campaign to raise support from supporters before a potential election campaign. The manipulated image of Cheney and Bush came in an email along with a link where supporters could donate campaign support.

– Dangerous moment

Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are now the two Republican members of the House of Representatives committee investigating the attack on Congress. On Thursday last week, they sent out summonses to people in the circle around Trump to get them to come in as witnesses. These include Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino and former strategist Steve Bannon.

On Sunday night American time, Cheney also posed for a major interview with the well-known news program «60 Minutes» at CBS.

– Silence helps the liar and spreads misinformation. I’m not going to accept that we live in a post-truth world. It’s a poison in our political bloodstream, Cheney says of why she continues to protest loudly against Trump’s untrue allegations of electoral fraud.

She is very concerned that the allegations of electoral fraud continue without any documentation, and after countless reports and rounds in the court system.

– It undermines our system. And it really is a serious and dangerous moment because of that, says Cheney in the interview.
