ReutersTrump greets his supporters after his testimony in the civil case

Former American President Trump has again denied allegations of sexual abuse in court. He defended himself in New York against the allegations of libel and abuse from columnist E. Jean Carroll.
Carroll accuses Trump of raping her in a fitting room at a luxury department store in the mid-1990s. In October 2022, he denied being guilty of this in a statement. Today, in the witness box, he answered the question whether he still supports that statement with “100 percent yes”.
When asked by one of Trump’s own lawyers whether he thought Carroll’s allegations were false, the former president responded in the affirmative. “Yes, I thought so. She said something that I saw as a false accusation, completely untrue.”
Trump’s lawyers left it at that. The former president was in the witness box for about four minutes. Tomorrow the closing arguments of both parties in the civil case will follow.
10 million dollars
E. Jean Carroll is a former columnist for Elle magazine. She demands $10 million from Trump. During the hearing of the case, friends and former colleagues of Carroll also spoke.
In an earlier lawsuit, a jury ruled last year that Trump had to pay her $5 million for abuse and defamation. Trump has appealed that ruling. The current case concerns other statements Trump made about Carroll, which he previously made as president in 2019.
Among other things, he called the columnist “crazy” and repeatedly called her accusations “fake” and “made up”.
Carroll is not the first woman to accuse Trump of sexual assault. At least fifteen other women accuse the president of sexual abuse and intimidation.
