Former US President Donald Trump sued his former personal lawyer and assistant Michael Cohen on Wednesday.
In a case filed in US District Court in Florida, Trump is seeking $500 million from Cohen for breach of attorney-client confidentiality.
Cohen was among the witnesses who testified before the grand jury in New York that decided to indict Trump.
Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business documents in connection with the payment of “hush money.”
The most famous accusations against Trump involve a $130,000 payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet about a sexual relationship she claims took place between her and Trump in 2006. Trump denies her claims.
Cohen, who is now testifying against Trump, claims that Trump ordered Daniels to make this payment shortly before the 2016 presidential election.
In the case against Cohen, Trump accuses his former lawyer of “spreading falsehoods” about him that caused him “great damage to his reputation.”
“Such continuous and escalating indecency [Koena] the behavior has reached a crescendo and has not left [Trampam] other alternative than to demand legal compensation,” the case states.
Trump is seeking a jury trial as well as more than $500 million in compensatory and punitive damages.
