Former President of the United States, Donald Trumpsued his former lawyer Michael Cohen for more than 500 million dollarsaccording to a filing filed Wednesday in a Florida federal court.
The lawsuit comes after Cohe testified before a Manhattan grand jury that later indicted Trump for 34 felonies of falsification of business records. Trump, the first former president in US history to be criminally prosecuted, pleaded not guilty to the charges on April 4 in a Manhattan court. In his lawsuit filed Wednesday, the 76-year-old billionaire claims that his reputation suffered “great damage” for Cohen’s breach of confidentiality agreement.
“Respondent breached his fiduciary duties to Plaintiff by virtue of his attorney-client relationship by disclosing confidences” of Trump and “spreading falsehoods” that “may be embarrassing or harmful” for the former president, according to the document, reported the AFP agency.
Trump, who is seeking the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, pleaded not guilty in that case on April 4th. Cohen is poised to be a stellar witness at any eventual trial.
Cohen in 2018 pleaded guilty of violating electoral law federal through the payment of USD 130,000 to the porn star Stormy Daniels, hired to present her services to the former president. He was sentenced to three years in prison for that and other crimes, including cheating on his personal taxes and lying under oath to Congress about when the Trump Organization stopped working on a proposed construction project in Russia.
