Donald Trump is on trial in New York. He follows the fraud trial against him live on site – but then it becomes too colorful for him.
New York – Donald Trump was really angry. Visibly annoyed, he suddenly stood up and stormed out of the courtroom without a word or greeting. This came as such a surprise that even the security guards were completely taken aback for a moment and waited a second before rushing after him.
His behavior was another indication that the New York fraud trial isn’t going too well for Trump. The case involves allegations by the public prosecutor’s office that the former US president, his sons and other employees manipulated the value of the family empire for years in order to obtain cheaper loans and insurance contracts. Trump is not threatened with a prison sentence, but a conviction could cause him great business damage.

The reason for Trump’s anger was a statement made by his former lawyer Michael Cohen, who testified as a key witness in the fraud trial for the second day in a row. Asked whether Trump had asked him to inflate the values of his assets in the financial records at the center of the civil case, Cohen was unable to answer. He just said he couldn’t remember it.
Trump’s lawyer Clifford Robert took this as an opportunity to request that the case be dismissed. But Judge Arthur Engoron didn’t want to hear about it and immediately rejected the application. Trump had finally had enough here. In any case, court reporter Adam Klasfeld noted on X matter-of-factly what happened next: “At that point, Trump stood up, left the courtroom and muttered: ‘Unbelievable. During his testimony, Trump said he had not referred to a court employee in statements earlier in the day, but rather to Cohen. However, Engoron did not consider Trump’s statements to be credible and imposed the fine. After Trump’s numerous verbal outbursts, the judge had previously issued an order for all those involved in the trial to refrain from personal attacks on court staff and threatened serious consequences.
