US presidential candidate Donald Trump is holding a campaign rally on Saturday in the small town of Butler, Pennsylvania, where an assassination attempt was carried out on his life on July 13th. Tech billionaire Elon Musk will also be present at his appearance. Musk identified himself as a supporter of Trump immediately after the attack. Since then he has been helping the Republican with money and messages on his online service X.
In the run-up to Trump’s appearance, Kamala Harris’ campaign team again took advantage of the Republican’s focus on the highest possible viewership – and trolled Trump with a video of a half-empty rally published on Trump’s own platform Truth Social became.
Harris team mocks Donald Trump with video
The split-screen video shows the Republican’s campaign appearance. On the one hand, you can see Trump giving his speech in front of a crowd. On the other half of the video you can see a shot of the entire hall – which was apparently only half full.
“Lies vs. reality,” the Harris team wrote about the video. The Democrats also published a similar video on Platform X, this time with the addition: “Trump: No one else can fill this hall (The room is almost empty).”
Donald Trump: “No one else can fill this hall”
The Harris team was alluding to a statement that Trump made, according to the US-Magazin „Newsweek“ at a campaign appearance on Thursday near Detroit. “Who else can fill the hall – only MAGA – but who else fills big places like this at 3 p.m.?” Trump had asked there boastfully from the stage.
Now the videos show that the Republican apparently didn’t fill the hall at all. According to Newsweek, videos taken before the event began also suggest that the chairs for spectators were only set up in one half of the hall in use.
Donald Trump returns to the assassination site – with Elon Musk
Trump did not respond to his opponent’s ridicule before returning to Butler. The shooter, who was killed by the Secret Service security service, narrowly missed Trump in his assassination attempt in mid-July. The 78-year-old only suffered minor injuries to his ear.
The appearance in Butler is not only symbolic because of the shots fired at Trump at the time, but also important in the election campaign. Pennsylvania is one of the so-called swing states that voted for the Republican candidate and the Democratic candidate in the presidential election and is therefore considered crucial for the outcome of the election on November 5th.
