MADRID, 8 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Former President of the United States Donald Trump has posted a bond of $91.6 million necessary to appeal the ruling against him in the defamation case filed by writer E. Jean Carroll.

This bond was an essential requirement to appeal the case after a federal court ordered Trump in January to pay $83.3 million, an amount that Trump’s lawyers have deposited plus interest.

The bond is a commitment from the insurance company Federal Insurance Company, which offers it to cover the costs of the process if Trump loses his appeal and does not pay. In exchange, Trump must pay the company a guarantee, including as much cash as possible, as reported by the lawyers in a statement reported by NBC.

The case dates back to the legal challenge that the journalist filed in 2019 before a state court against the former president for defamation due to the way in which he had denied a first rape complaint after saying that “she was not his type” and that he did to sell your book.

According to the initial verdict at the end of January, the mogul was forced to pay to finance a campaign to repair the writer’s damaged image and another $7.3 million for emotional damage, as well as $65 million in punitive damages.
