Donald Trump Pleads Not Guilty in Lawsuit over Attempt to Alter Georgia State Election Results

Former US President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty today in a major lawsuit over his 2020 attempts to alter the results of the Georgia state election, Reuters reported, citing court documents.

Trump also refused to listen to the official indictment in the case, the Associated Press reported. That means he will not have to appear in court for an arraignment hearing that Fulton County Circuit Judge Scott McAfee had scheduled for next week.

Fulton County District Attorney Fannie Willis charged Trump with 13 felony charges, including racketeering, for pressuring state officials to replace his 2020 election loss and for allegedly creating a false voter list to undermine the confirmation of the victory of Democratic President Joe Biden from the US Congress, writes BTA.

The latest charges mark Trump’s fourth impeachment since the former US president began his re-election campaign.

“As evidenced by my signature below, I hereby waive formal charges and plead NOT guilty to the indictment in this case,” Trump said in a document filed today in Fulton County District Court.

Earlier this month, Trump and 18 others were indicted in a 41-count indictment detailing an alleged scheme to sway Georgia voters who chose Democrat Joe Biden over then-Republican President Joe Biden in the presidential election. , notes the Associated Press.

Several others charged in the indictment have already waived formal charges in court filings, sparing them a trip to the downtown Atlanta courthouse. Trump previously came to the state of Georgia on August 24 to turn himself in at the Fulton County Jail, where he became the first former US president to be photographed.

For more than 18 months, Ukraine has been fighting the Russian invasion with the help of the West.

Trump’s lawyers also asked the judge to separate his case from the cases of some other defendants who have requested a speedy trial in the case and are expected to go to trial before October. Trump’s lawyers say they didn’t have enough time to prepare for the October date.

Fulton County prosecutors want the trial to begin in October.

The Georgia case is the fourth indictment against Trump.
