President Donald Trump on Sunday ordered Washington’s withdrawal from the National Guard, saying the situation is now under control after days of protests linked to the death of George Floyd.
“I just ordered our National Guard to start withdrawing from Washington DC now that everything is perfectly under control“he tweeted.”They will go home but can quickly return if necessary. Far fewer protesters than expected yesterday (Saturday) evening!“, he added.
Tens of thousands of Americans demonstrated peacefully in cities across the country on Saturday. And the rally in the federal capital, under the windows of a White House surrounded by wire fences and transformed into an entrenched camp, did not give rise to any incident.

The National Guard is a reserve force in the United States military that can be mobilized in the event of natural disasters or riots.
After several violent demonstrations and scenes of looting in several American cities, the American president had raised an outcry last Monday, by threatening to deploy the army to restore “the law and the order”.
Protests have continued daily since the death on May 25 in Minneapolis (north) of George Floyd, a black man killed by a police officer who smothered him by pressing his knee on his neck for more than eight minutes.
