Donald Trump Mixes Up Names of Hungary’s Viktor Orban and Turkey’s Leader in Campaign Speech

Former US President Donald Trump mixed up the names of his international friends during a campaign speech on Monday, misspelling the name of Viktor Orban as Turkey’s leader.

European Pravda reports this, citing Trump’s speech in New Hampshire.

“The whole world is exploding. You know, I am very honored – there is such a person, Viktor Orban, has anyone ever heard of him?” Trump said, referring to the Hungarian prime minister.

“He is probably one of the most powerful leaders in the world. He is the leader of Turkey,” the former US president added.

Trump added that Orban has a “front” with Russia. Neither Türkiye nor Hungary have a border with Russia.

Here’s what Trump’s statement sounded like in New Hampshire (phrases after 1 minute of video):

Trump previously praised Orban and called his style of government “illiberal democracy.” Trump hosted him at the White House in 2019.

Orbán was the first European leader to back Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. He also publicly supports Trump in the 2024 campaign and court cases against the former US President.

Trump, according to Orban, is “the man who can save the Western world and, perhaps, all of humanity.”

Since becoming US president, Trump has openly praised Erdogan and his leadership style, calling him a “friend” and “one hell of a leader.” Erdogan named Trump among the leaders he most admired.

Meanwhile, Viktor Orban admitted that prayed for Erdogan’s victory at the elections.
