Former Republican President Donald Trump has a lead over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on who would be better at leading the country through the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, according to a Wall Street Journal poll of seven battleground states.
Die published on Friday Poll showed Harris and Trump in seven states deciding the fate of the November presidential election could decide to enjoy the same support.
According to the poll, Harris leads Trump by 2 percentage points in Arizona, Georgia and Michigan, Trump leads Trump by 6 points in Nevada and 1 point in Pennsylvania, and both candidates are tied in North Carolina and Wisconsin. The poll of 600 registered voters in each state, conducted from September 28 to October 8, had a margin of error of 4 percentage points in each state.
The results, consistent with other polls, point to a tight race ahead of the Nov. 5 election, when Americans will choose between two candidates focused on the country’s economy, immigration, women’s rights and the democratic values.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll released this week also found Trump and Harris in a tight race nationally, with Harris slightly ahead of Trump 46% to 43%.
The swing voter poll could be an important indicator as the winner in each state will be determined by the Electoral College, with the seven core states likely to be decisive.
Harris will win a supermajority in the Electoral College if she wins the states where she is leading in the WSJ poll.
According to the WSJ poll, Trump leads Harris 50% to 39% in seven swing states when it comes to who is best positioned to handle Russia’s war in Ukraine. When it comes to the question of who can best deal with the war between Israel and Hamas, Trump is ahead of Harris 48% to 33%.
A majority of voters said they support Trump on the economy and immigration, while even more voters said Harris would do a better job on housing, health care and caring for people like them, the WSJ poll found.
