Donald Trump files a complaint against the New York prosecutor

It’s his favorite sport. Former US President Donald Trump lodged a complaint against New York State Attorney Letitia James on Monday in an attempt to block his investigation into possible tax evasion by his family group, according to court documents.

The lawsuit, filed in state federal court, accuses the Democratic prosecutor of violating the former president’s constitutional rights by conducting the investigation for political reasons. “Its mission is driven only by political hostility and a desire to harass, intimidate and take revenge against a simple citizen whom she sees as a political opponent”, we can read in the complaint.

Letitia James launched this investigation in March 2019, suspecting the Trump Organization of having fraudulently overestimated the value of certain properties when it applied for loans to banks, and of having underestimated these same properties with the tax authorities in order to pay less taxes.

According to the Washington Post daily in early December, she asked Donald Trump to come and testify in her office on January 7. Eric Trump, one of the sons of the Republican billionaire and executive vice-president of the Trump Organization, was heard by the prosecutor’s office in October 2020.

Aimed from all sides

The former president is also targeted by other investigations in the United States. He was heard on October 18 for a case in which demonstrators accuse his security service of having molested them six years ago. His group is also the target of an investigation by the Manhattan district attorney into suspicion of financial crimes and insurance fraud.

In July, the Trump Organization and its loyal accountant Allen Weisselberg pleaded not guilty in a New York court to 15 counts of fraud and tax evasion. The trial is due to open in mid-2022.

At the same time, Donald Trump is fighting to avoid having to disclose years of tax returns to prosecutors, while a special Congressional committee in Washington seeks access to White House documents on the attack. du Capitole, January 6, 2021.
